Frequently asked questions
I’m new to yoga. Which class should I start with?
Classes at Yoga Spot Fairfield are open to all levels. Our teachers are highly skilled at offering modifications for beginners and progressions for more experienced yogis. You can read our class descriptions. The class you choose will depend on what you want from your yoga practice, and existing fitness and activity levels. Our Hot Yoga, Hot Mat Pilates, Flow and Hot Flow classes offer a physical challenge whilst Yin Yoga is chilled and meditative. Slow Flow is exactly that – slow and fluid, and a nice entry point, as is Gentle Yoga. Our four-week Beginners Series are also a great introduction to the practices of yoga and the poses themselves.Â
Should I eat and drink before class?
Avoid large meals up to 2 hours before class. If you’re hungry, try a light snack. If you’re doing Hot Yoga, it’s particularly beneficial to enter the room hydrated, rather than trying to drink water during a class. Small sips are best. When your class ends, be sure to consume more water and replenish.
Do I have to book online?
Bookings are no longer mandatory, but we love knowing that you’re coming. You can book online via our website and/or our booking platform Momence. We lock the front door at the beginning of every class, so please don’t arrive late.
What do I wear?
Light exercise clothing that allows you to move comfortably is best. Think similar to what you might wear at the gym or for a run.
What should I bring to class?
If you have one, a yoga mat.
You’re also welcome to bring your own props, like a block, strap and bolster. These items are available for communal use at the studio, we just ask that you bring (or hire) a full length towel to place over your bolster for Yin classes.Â
Also bring a water bottle and sweat towel for Hot classes.Â
And if you don’t own a mat, we have some for sale at the studio and offer mat hire for $2.
How hot is a Hot class?
Hot Yoga classes are run at a temperature of 34 degrees, which is intended to make you sweat, but is below body temperature and will not cause stress or fatigue. Our style of Hot Yoga is significantly cooler than Bikram Yoga (the Hot Yoga most people have heard of) and differs from Bikram in that our Hot Yoga sequence will vary every time you step foot in the room, depending on who is taking the class.
Do you have showers?
Yes. Our change rooms have showers, toilets (including with disability access), hair dryers, straighteners and all-natural body products. Towels are available for hire.
Is there a minimum age to practice?
Yes, we ask that all students are aged 16 and above.
I have an injury. Can I still practice?
Often yoga can be a therapeutic way to work through an injury. However, get the all clear from your health care professional first. Please discuss any injuries or pre-existing conditions with your teacher on arrival so they can recommend modifications to help keep you safe.
Can I practice during pregnancy?
Absolutely. Many women come to yoga for the first time when pregnant. But it is an individual thing, and it’s important to be guided by your health care professional. We also ask that you provide a letter of consent from your GP to participate in classes. We do recommend avoiding Hot Yoga for at least the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy, and please notify your teacher if you are pregnant so they can best guide you with modifications.
What if I booked and I need to cancel a class?
Cancellations can be made online via your Momence account, or via the Momence mobile app.Â
